Character Education
At Cleveland Elementary, we emphasize the importance of teaching the whole student. We focus not only on academics but on equipping our students with the life skills necessary to become "Tomorrow's Leaders." Character Education is taught in and out of the classroom. Listed below are components of our school wide character education plan.
S.C.O.R.E.:
S.C.O.R.E. is acronym for our school five behavioral expectations - Self Control, Caring, Organized, Respectful, Engaged. These expectations are taught throughout the school and students are encouraged daily to display these qualities in their school work, actions, and relationships.
Project Wisdom:
This is a national character education curriculum that uses thought-provoking inspirational messages that promotes a positive school climate using topics such as respecting others, conflict resolution, academic excellence. An administrator or the school counselor delivers these messages daily via the morning broadcast.
Second Step:
“Second Step” is a character education program designed to teach students skills needed in healthy social and emotional development. The focus is on empathy, impulse control, problem solving and anger management. “Second Step” is taught in grades K-2.
Steps to Respect:
“Steps to Respect” is a bullying prevention program designed to help adults and students decrease bullying in their school, and to establish a safe, caring, and respectful school climate. “Steps to Respect” is taught in grades 3-5.
